Get in on the Summertime Action with Tony Alexander on South Carolina’s Lake Murray By Capt. Ted Lund Summer isn’t the only thing heating up for anglers on Lake Murray, SC — home waters to one of the nation’s top boat manufacturers in the marine industry — Tidewater Boats. Located just outside Columbia, SC, it has some of the best fishing for striped bass, white perch (crappie) and trophy catfish of almost any lake in the south. “This is one of my favorite times of year here on the lake,” says Lake Murray legend and expert, Tony Alexander.
“We’re still getting water temperatures in the 70s on the surface, but night time our air temps are still dipping into the 40s,” says Alexander. “So it’s making it difficult for us to target (but not impossible) the world-class, 20-pound-plus stripers we are known for.” By Capt. Ted Lund “Can you call me back? I just got my Tidewater back to the dock and have a cooler full of fish to clean,” said the voice on the other end of the phone in a soft, Southern drawl. The southern drawl belonged to fishing guide Terry Caulder of Catch 22 Striper Guide Service in South Carolina. And having the problem of cleaning a cooler full of fish is EXACTLY the type of problem you want to have with a fishing guide.
Caulder, 63, was born and raised in Little Mountain, South Carolina a stone’s throw from Columbia, South Carolina (home of the Gamecocks) and some of the best freshwater striped bass fishing in the south. An avid tournament fisherman, Caulder has claimed nearly $18,000 in tournament winnings since the beginning of the year. The key to his success? “Without a doubt, my Tidewater 2410 Baymax.” 4/16/2019
Tidewater Pro: Capt. Brad Taylorby Capt. Ted Lund It’s hard to imagine a guide with a more diverse schedule than Tidewater Boats professional, Capt. Brad Taylor. During the Spring and Summer months, you’ll find him leading clients to trophy striped bass and crappie on Lake Murray near Columbia, SC. During the Fall, he heads down to the Low Country to stalk alligators, sometimes reaching as much as 14 feet in length. Year round, he’s also guiding clients to catfish, carp and other popular species with a bow. That diversity is one of the many reasons that Taylor chose the Tidewater 2410 Bay Max.
“I really love the balance of this boat,” says Taylor. “At 24-feet, 10-inches, it is a big boat and has the ride of a big boat. But it fishes like a much smaller boat. It does everything I need it to do.” In addition to balance, Taylor love’s the 2410 Bay Max’s stability, a result of its beamy 9-foot width. |
