Long revered as one of the most popular gamefish along the Atlantic Coast, striped bass are found from the coastal rivers and surf to nearshore depths. An anadromous species that reside in saltwater only to return to freshwater estuaries to spawn, stripers can live up to 30 years. Trophy sizes exceed 50 pounds. Declining stocks recently has forced more restrictions on the harvest, but catch and release opportunities still abound using a variety of baits, lures, and techniques.

There are several ways to effectively release chum without making a mess of the boat. The key is to disperse the material into the water at a steady, even flow rate. Release too much and the targeted fish stuff themselves on the chum instead of the baits. Release too little and they might not feed at all.
A mesh bag with a drawstring top is the most popular choice for dispersing frozen chum blocks. Various sizes are available—just make sure they are large enough to hold the block. Mesh bags require minimum effort and they can be reused; to clean, tie off on a cleat and drag it through the water during the run back in. Disposable ones are also now available from various tackle shops. Cheap mesh laundry bags from discount retailers are another disposable option.
A Perfect Match for the Tidewater Line of Boats

When learning about the state of Maine, the motto is one thing that truly stands out: “Dirigo.” This Latin word meaning “I Direct” or “I Lead” certainly fits perfectly when speaking about a true leader in the boating community that can be found in Maine by the name of Yankee Marina & Boatyard.
A family-owned, full-service marina, YM&B is now in its’ sixth decade of granting to boaters the highest quality marine and specialty technical services they could possibly want. Located on six acres along the protected west bank of the Royal River, boaters are not only enthralled by the menu of services offered, as well as the staff that’s available all year long, but they are equally thrilled to dock in this location and find themselves bowled over by the beauty of Yarmouth.

A sudden emergency situation on the water is the absolute worst time to realize your boat’s safety gear isn’t up to standard or functioning properly. With the busy summer boating and fishing season here, thoroughly inspect all safety gear before hitting the water to make sure it’s compliant. It could save your life.

Understanding the Differences between the Tidewater LXF vs. CC Adventure Models is easy!
By Capt. Ted Lund
When buying a new boat, some of the terminologies that manufacturers use can be somewhat confusing. Thanks to some innovative thinking by innovative marine manufacturer, Tidewater Boats, the naming process for models has become a lot easier, allowing boat owners to find the perfect fit for their family-friendly adventures and fishing.
Tidewater Boats LXF and CC Adventure Models: The ABC’s
Two great examples of how this works are with two members of the Tidewater LXF and CC Adventure series. Each Tidewater boat share similarity like a dry chine ride thanks to greater widths chine-to-chine than other boats in the similar size range. The result? Smooth, dry performance and allowing models to operate efficiently with a variety of single and dual engine installations.
Each Tidewater Boat also features the company’s unique Carolina flair that helps deflect spray making your day drier. Tidewater’s hull system also features a proprietary Spray Relief Point which directs water down and away from the side of the hull. Coupled with the Carolina Flair, it helps make each Tidewater one of the driest boats on the water. No-wood, all composite construction makes all Tidewaters among the strongest and safest boats in the industry. Plus, each of the models are built around the company’s proprietary corrugated grid stringer vertebra which provides super strength and support throughout each boat.

Approaching the dock — particularly in front of a crowded marina — can be one of the most nerve-racking experiences on the water. But it really shouldn't be. I've got ten simple rules that, if followed to the letter, will not only make you better at close-quarters maneuvering and docking but will also make you a better all-around boater.
Rule No. 1: Never approach the dock faster than you are willing to hit it.
Rule No. 2: There is room for only one captain on your vessel.
Rules No. 3-10: See rules 1 and 2; when in doubt, refer to rule No. 2.
Well, there's actually a little more to it than that. But by taking a measured, methodical approach, boaters can tackle even the most challenging docking situations and come out looking like a pro — even as the local peanut gallery looks on with their scorecards.
